I hear elders say that parenting today is easier today than it was decades back because of all the gadgets and new inventions that aid moms and dads today in childcare. Somehow I agree but then I also disagree.

I think the challenges in parenting today are more complicated than it were back then. Yes, there are so many inventions and technology that help parents today like those amazing high chairs, strollers, playpens, cribs, co-sleepers, carriers, nursing clothes, nursing covers and other nursing aids, thermometers, bath tubs, tablets and phones loaded with entertaining educational children’s apps and many more. In today’s world, childcare has never been so exciting, fun, and expensive too (truth be told, especially when you think you need everything because of all the marketing ploys around). 

It can really be more expensive today than the simple life before (especially if you live in the city coupled with the influence of the internet and social media and add society’s pressures- like parents’, in-laws’, and those from friends). The challenge is to discipline and know your style of parenting and stick it. Know what are the things you want to inculcate to your kids and be firm on them (don’t forget that being a good example is the best teacher for small children). It can get more complicated as you dig along.

To make lives easier, here are some information which can serve as a guide for new parents to infants and young children. Remember that every child is different so sometimes they don’t exactly need to be what these charts are saying. But at least you know that the child is more or less on the right track. A little deviation from these is not bad and alarming at all. Enjoy moms and dads! Thank goodness for information like these today. It kept worry warts like me from worrying a little too much.

But remember, trusting your instinct is still best. No one knows your child  more than you do.
